ently overlooked signals is compression. This is a specific market state where price moves in a certain direction, consistently testing and sweeping all nearby supply or demand levels. Visually, this resembles a tightly coiled spring or a slow price movement within a narrow channel, where each new extreme is immediately overlapped by a subsequent pullback. The core essence of compression is that, during this movement, the market consumes (exhausts) all available limit orders within the range. A professional analyst sees this not as strength in the current micro-move, but as the preparation of a vacuum for a future impulse.

Mechanics of Liquidity Absorption

To understand why an explosive move occurs after a compression zone, one must look at the mechanics of order matching. In a typical market environment, support and resistance levels are filled with limit orders from both big players and retail traders. When price moves into a compression zone, it does so in short steps: price rises, then pulls back to test the previous buyer’s zone, sweeps liquidity there, then rises and pulls back again. As a result, no protected zones remain behind the price. All orders that could have halted a counter-move have already been executed. The market becomes thin. When price reaches a key institutional level, such as a powerful Order Block or a Supply/Demand zone, a reversal occurs. Since there are no limit barriers on the way back, the price rips through this section almost instantly, meeting no resistance.

Visual Signs of Accumulation Zones

Identifying compression requires a trained eye. Unlike a healthy trend, where we see clear impulses and deep corrections, compression looks messy. Candles often have long wicks that overlap the bodies of previous candles. On the chart, this looks like a staircase with very low steps. An important sign is the lack of significant imbalances within the compression zone. Price constantly returns to fill any micro-gaps. If you see price slowly squeezing toward a major resistance level, while constantly testing and clearing local support zones below, you are looking at a classic bullish compression. This is a sure sign that once price touches the supply zone, a rapid dump will begin, retracing back through that entire empty corridor.

The Reason for Lightning-Fast Retracements

The explosive nature of the move after compression concludes is explained by the lack of interest from the opposite side. Imagine a vacuum: as soon as the barrier is removed, the space is filled instantly. In trading, limit orders play the role of such a barrier. If compression has eaten all buy orders during its slow ascent, then once a market sell order from a big player appears, there is simply nothing for the price to hit the brakes on. A cascading execution of stop-losses occurs for those who went long inside the compression, which accelerates the drop even further. This is exactly why compression zones are priority targets for profit-taking: professionals know that price will return to the source of the move much faster than it took to leave it.

Entry Algorithm

Trading compression requires patience. A mistake many beginners make is trying to trade inside the compression zone itself, where the price constantly hunts stops due to frequent pullbacks. The professional approach is to wait. First, we identify a target level: a significant Point of Interest (POI) toward which the compression is directed.

Great insights! I've been looking for something like this setup for a while. Definitely stealing the configuration.

Have you tried using Raycast instead of Spotlight alongside these? It replaced half of my menubar apps!
