The Market Balance indicator based on volume

The essence of the market equilibrium concept

lators, which merely average past price fluctuations, volume-based market balance indicators work with the root cause of movement: the interaction of supply and demand. The market is in equilibrium when the volume of buys and sells at a specific price level is comparable. As soon as one side shows aggression, absorbing the opposite side’s liquidity, an imbalance arises, triggering an impulse move. Using volume data allows you to identify whether the current movement is a true breakout or a manipulation by major players.

The technical foundation of volume indicators

The Market Balance indicator analyzes Order Flow and the distribution of tick volume within each candle or over a specific period. The primary tools here are the horizontal Volume Profile and Cumulative Delta. Delta represents the difference between market buys (Ask) and market sells (Bid). If the delta is positive, aggressive buyers dominate the market; if negative, the initiative lies with the sellers. However, a delta skew alone does not guarantee a reversal or trend continuation. It is crucial to evaluate how the price reacts to this volume. The state of balance is visualized as a bell curve (Gaussian distribution), where the central point, the Point of Control (POC), serves as the zone of maximum interest and the fair price for the current moment.

Imbalance as a trigger for trading decisions

Trading opportunities arise when the price exits the Value Area. When the indicator detects a significant volume skew within a narrow price range, it indicates the presence of institutional capital. For instance, if abnormally high sell volume is observed at a support level, but the price stops falling, we are dealing with a limit barrier—a situation where a major player absorbs all market sell orders with limit orders. This is a classic example of a hidden bullish imbalance. A trader using a balance indicator sees this process in real time, whereas classic indicators will only signal a buy long after the fact, once the price has already moved significantly higher.

Strategies for working with value areas

Effective use of the indicator is built on identifying Low Volume Nodes (LVN) and High Volume Nodes (HVN). High Volume Nodes act as magnets for price, as maximum liquidity is concentrated there. Low Volume Nodes are often traversed by the price almost instantly, as there is no consensus between buyers and sellers at those levels. The mean reversion strategy involves entering a trade upon price deviation from the POC, anticipating a retest of the balance zone. Conversely, a breakout strategy is built on the price consolidating above the value area, signaling the formation of a new balance at higher levels. A key factor here is confirming the breakout with a spike in vertical volume, which excludes fake moves caused by low liquidity.

Noise filtering and parameter settings

For high-quality analysis, it is necessary to correctly configure volume filtering. In volatile markets, such as cryptocurrencies or index futures, small orders create information noise. Professional platforms allow you to set thresholds to display only large transactions (Block Trades). This makes it possible to isolate the actions of “smart money.” Adjusting the analysis period is also critical: for intraday trading, the current day’s profile is relevant, whereas for medium-term analysis, a weekly or monthly profile is used.

Great insights! I've been looking for something like this setup for a while. Definitely stealing the configuration.

Have you tried using Raycast instead of Spotlight alongside these? It replaced half of my menubar apps!
